Let the holidays begin

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Boy, when it comes to this blog, I’m in and out like a hero in a good love scene…a lot. Heh.

Uh, right. So, anyway, I’m back.  Again.  But this time I’m really done with the book!

After an eleventh-hour critique, the full is hitting the mail in the morning and then I’m done with writing-related stress for the rest of the year. I might do some fun things, like check on that other full or enter the GH or toy with my trilogy idea. But no more killer nights of caffeine- and computer-induced headaches.

Writing truly becomes work when you’re dealing with the final, final draft. The fun part of the story has long since been written and you’re drooling at the keyboard at 1 a.m., pissed that you’re sucking down “calming” chamomile tea instead of jumbo bags of Halloween candy, trying to fit the last few plot pieces together when you really want to toss all 250 pages on the editor’s desk and say “you fix it”. LOL The other day one of my smart-arse friends made a comment about my writing porn, all in good fun, but somehow I don’t think the authors of Playboy articles have to work quite this hard. And I didn’t even have to tinker with any of the love scenes, so if I just spent the past week working on porn, I’m pretty disappointed. ;)

But hey, the thing is PRINTING! What a wonderful feeling! Reminds me of the day I dropped my very last exam on my prof’s desk back in college. Done forever. Of course, this time, I hope it’s just the beginning.

savecontemporary

They’re hot. They’re realistic. They’re straight contemporary romances.

Come on, buy one. Sex with a vampire might be cool once in a while, but there’s nothing like a strong, gorgeous, flesh-and-blood man. ;)

So that book I mentioned finishing…Fabu Editor requested the full!

And yes, this will be Full Request # 3 from Blaze. I’m going bald here. Gray and bald. Not that you’ll ever see my natural hair color long enough to know if I have a piece of gray. (The answer is NO, NEVER, Not Until I’m 85!)

Anyway, I don’t want to go down in history as the writer who submitted the most full manuscripts without getting a sale, so I’m going to practice scooping fries into a cardboard sleeve in case this doesn’t work out.

The morning after

(She emerges from the cave, dragging her feet.  Enters the blog panting.  Sweating.  With parched mouth and carpal tunnel.)

Okay, I don’t have carpal tunnel. But lest you think I’ve been napping and eating bon-bons for all this time–no, sir.  I’ve been polishing the final draft (let me repeat that, it’s important–FINAL. DRAFT!) of a book.  Every night and day for a number of weeks.  My eyes hurt, but on the bright side I’ve gotten to touch my new laptop a *lot*. And on the most blinding side this far from the sun, I now have another full, complete, revised, never-to-be-messed-with-again-without-an-editor’s-request manuscript! How refreshing it is to pull one from the “WIP” pile and drop it into the “submit ’til I’m blue in the face” stack…

I remember when this story was stuck at 30k words and I thought it was dead in the water. But I worked it, baby, worked it out.  And I’m very happy with it.  It’s highly emotional and that’s what we do here, right? Tell it to the editor! ;)

So whatcha been up to? Any completed books? Submissions, possibly with a nervous breakdown tossed in? Speak to me.

As for me, I’m exhausted.

And now I shall give these eyes and fingers a rest.
