Life and writing keeping me busy. Be back eventually.

I had a dream

September 27th, 2008

It wasn’t about equality or world peace…it was me being offered a contract by the publisher that has my GH full. Not only that, but I went on to grow a huge backlist with them. Inspirational, methinks, because I got the best idea tonight. I love Hot Ghost Man so much, I’ve decided to turn him into a trilogy! Because it’s not just him I adore, it’s the place where his story occurs, and many more can certainly be told there.

There happen to be two very cool supporting characters in the first book, and they want stories, too. And what do you know, both premises came to me out of nowhere. (Props to the hubby for pushing me to write “Hot Ghost Man Two”.) I am so excited about this. If I have a muse, she’s made me proud. :-)

Your Love Type: INFJ

The Protector

In love, you strive to have the perfect relationship.

For you, sex is nearly a spiritual experience, a bonding of souls.

Overall, you have high expectations for any relationship you’re in.

However, you tend to hold back a part of yourself.

Best matches: ENTP and ENFP

What’s Your Love Type?

Big fat duh! Must applaud the accuracy of this one.

Now everybody take the quiz, go find yourself a match and have a hot-lovin’ weekend!

Censorship

September 25th, 2008

I’ve never read the book in question so I can’t speak to the quality of it, and don’t get me started on how much I can’t stand high school kids (and middle school, for crying out loud) having sex, but this is annoying.

Parents, it’s unfortunate, but most school-age kids are hearing and speaking more “profanity and sexually explicit language” than can be found in any book. And how about we raise our kids to be smart and mature enough to know that just because they read something doesn’t mean they need to run out and do it? It may be easier to ban the book than teach your kids how to do the right thing, but it won’t work.

A good author puts the words in there for a reason. A bad author probably wouldn’t end up in a library…so let’s focus on raising our children instead of blaming a novel, shall we?

*ETA: as more details come out, it looks like they aren’t trying to ban the book, just isolate bad-language books in a dark corner of the library. Still, for me it all goes back to kids’ behavior and questionable values. Would a YA novel involving sex, booze, and, um, crotchless panties (okay…) be a bestseller if the young audience wasn’t fascinated with the stuff? I’ll say it again: wait till you’re older, kiddos. All that stuff is much more fun when you actually know what you’re doing.

I hate when I feel like this.

For at least a week, I’ve been depressed for no reason at all. And I have a major case of insomnia, which means unless I take two Tylenol PMs (sure, I’ll pimp ‘em–they work) an hour before bed, I fall asleep around, oh, four a.m. I don’t know what the problem is and if I don’t know, then I can’t fix it. Annoying. There are only two things that are less than ideal in my life right now–it’s been a good six months since I had any significantly positive writing news, and the world is coming to an end. Okay, the economy is coming to an end, but since money makes the world go ’round, it might as well be the world…

But everything else is good, great even. I have a house, one with a mortgage that gets paid. I don’t work for anyone but me (and my future readers!). My husband is the bomb. My kids, who were driving me up the walls and through the roof a few months ago, have magically transformed into big boys who behave. Kids and husband greet me when I come home from the grocery store (or anywhere) with, “Hello, gorgeous!” What’s depressing about that?

Who knows. So I’m doing what I can–eating well, exercising, drinking water…and hoping for a magic pill in the form of a book contract that will help me feel better. ;)

Got any tried-and-true remedies for the blues?
